That way more builds get to keep their summons instead of sacrificing them because they frankly don’t have room in their skill bars for them (and the sac perks are a little too good anyway)… Which is further gimple by the game’s kinda shoehorning you into having very specific ability archetypes (ex: one generator, one core ability, one survivability ability, one crowd control ability, one ultimate, etc)… Really hard to fit two summoning spells in that minuscule skill bar, basically. Path of exile gives you 13 skills at a time (plus how many auras and active skils you want to run)… Diablo 2 Resurrected on controllers also gave us an alt skill bar so we could cast twice as many different spells (while keyboard players could have 16 different skills on their skill slots), but here we are in the sequel, which gimps us with a six skill limitation, and forces you to allocate two of those skills if you want your skeletons and golem… Leaving you with only four skill slots.
Necromancers have always been more complex classes to play, requiring multiple skills at once.
Honestly, D4’s summon necro isn’t even in that bad of a spot, they just need to buff them to be more viable when using them a standalone because right now it kinda feels like your offensive skills are doing the heavy lifting and the minions are there mostly as diversion and to generate essence for you… Or at least give us the option to bind a second ability bar so we can offload the summon spells off our main skill bar and put the curse in there while we’re at it. Or the Last Epoch, which also have multiple minion builds that are endgame viable and rely exclusively on minion damage and tanking for viability… There’s tons of minion builds in path of exile with minions that basically never die and deal 100% of the damage, with the summoner being there solely to buff the DPS of his minions and apply curses / cast short duration minions / reposition them, etc.Īlso, how about an even more obscure game called “Diablo 2”, where you can run pure summoner builds that can clear the hardest content super fast including uber tristram… With some help here and there from corpse explosions to help speed up clear speed. Umm… How about a small, unknown game named Path of Exile… Diablo 4’s biggest competitor, and probably the second most well-known ARPG… “Name one arpg where your minions do all of your damage, don’t die, and you can complete the game at the same pace as someone who’s doing it without minions.”
